Artist Statement
My work highlights particular soft, present moments. It sings with the connection between people and other living beings. I study a place’s local ecology intently, and the viewer can see the elements and forms of this local ecology creating the structure and foundation from which all other information, including human life, rises from. I am focused on how this ecology and the intelligence within it forms and molds the ways of life of the people and the nuances of their culture. Within these artworks are the strands and the pieces, the details that make us, but which are often neglected or completely forgotten at this point in our evolution. These artworks are prayers back to presence, strumming the chords of connective tissue between all of life.

Over 8 years of collaborations with US Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska’s National Wildlife Refuges and with Alaska Native Communities. Work included portraits, workshops, drawings, prints and murals with Alaska Native Peoples including Iñupiaq of Selawik and Kaktovik, Gwich’in of Arctic Village and Ft. Yukon, Yup’ik of Togiak, Kwethluk and Chuathbaluk, Unangax of Cold Bay and Alaska Peninsula and the Alutiiq of Kodiak.
